Merry XMas!

By Knoxville SEM

So I had lunch with some folks from Google (NY) today and was fortunate enough to get a first glimpse of the Google phone.

Couple of things off the top of my head:

MP3 player but not iTunes compatible

High mega pixell camera (they "couldn't say" how high) with a FLASH

Sexy and sleek, but the screen gets finger greased more easily than the iPhone

Naviagtion is okay, touch screen Nav isnt as smooth as the iPhone but works nonetheless

Stagnant screen is cool, little lines of light running though the screen - which I'm sure eats up the battery life

I didn't get the chance to look for very long but I saw all Google features and a Facebook shortcut which I'm assuming came standard since they told me that they've only had it for a day. Didn't see much else other than the standard features of a cell phone.

Cool little android logo on the battery cover.

I was told that the phone WILL INDEED be unlocked, but the compatibility with Verizon is in question.

I was told that release WILL occur within the 1st quarter of 2010, and that January is likely the time.

As far as price, nothing clear was made about that nor did I get a clear answer on whether or not Google will sell direct. However, they did tell me that there will be MORE than enough inventory to accommodate anyone who wants one and that there will likely not be a waiting list.

Google - Live Search Results

First encounter with Google's new live search results feature.

Most of the results are, you guessed it, from Twitter!

Google's "Certified" Mistake

Posted In: . By Knoxville SEM

So earlier this week I signed into my MCC account with a most unwelcome message,

Your qualification is at risk.
You are at risk of losing your qualification due to low account spending. To retain your qualification, you must maintain the minimum account spending level.

Naturally the first thing I did was contact my Google representative to ask why I would possibly lose my status. I'm spending the proper amount, my CTRs and Quality Scores aren't bad. What did I do?

As it turned out, my daily spend averaged slightly less than the minimum required spend to retain my Qualified status. This average spend has to roughly equate to a minimum amount over a ninety day period. Of course we all know that right?

As of today, this page and (most importantly) this page claims that the minimum ninety day spend must be no less than $1000. What if I were to tell you that there are three zero's missing from that?

In essence I was informed that the $1,000.00 factor in becoming (and maintaining) qualified status was a "big mistake." The minimum is REALLY supposed to be $100,000.00 over a ninety day period.

To retain qualification, program members must maintain a spend of $100,000
(90 days) on an ongoing basis. Program members at risk of losing
qualification due to low spending levels will be notified by a message on
their Google Advertising Professionals program site, and Company account
Administrators will also receive an email notification.

Wow! Calling a $99,000.00 difference a "big mistake" is a bit of an understatement!

Now let me make clear that I am neither announcing that Google has royally screwed up nor am I saying that ANYONE is going to lose their qualification status. The information I received has only been gathered from a single source and unfortunately I'm a blogger (at least in my head), not a Journalist. Verification is an awful lot of work for us lazy people.

Anyway I can't help but worry for the free-lance SEM folks out there who can't come near that kind of spend but still enjoy that certification of Adwords credibility.

Now we can see the average CPC, from lowest to highest, when building the ad-group.

Google Running Scared

Yesterday I read a funny little tweet from the famous Danny Sullivan:

dannysullivani hear sergey brin is building a panic room at google in case of bing attack, too http://bit.ly/bfIcY and buying gold. stocking up on food

I sent an @ message but of course he'll never see it. He has not yet discovered how awesome it is to follow me on Twitter.

Anyway, apparently Danny isn't too far off, especially when you consider the speculation floating around.

Oh and Yahoo! is still around too.

New, Tasty, And Kosher!

Koogle, the latest search engine to hit the web, is Rabbi tested and approved. Koogle is free of sexually illicit and other "religiously objective material" in it's search results.

The best part? Koogle does not work, as it shouldn't, on the Sabbath.

Read more here and here.

Try Koogle (if you can read Hebrew) here. Try Koogle (if you can't read Hebrew) here.

Click here for a great Koogle recipe (my wife would love that I'm posting something about food).

Let Me Google That For You

You know when people ask stoopid questions like "how much should I pay for this car," or "what makes KnoxvilleSEM so great?"

Now, leave out the famous quote "just Google it stupid," and just do it for them.

Bing!

Bing made it's debut this weekend to mixed reviews, especially concerning it's gracious porn results.

Microsoft hopes Bing will rival the popularity and loyalty of Google's worldwide monopoly.
